Since independence at the beginning of the nineteenth century, Latin America has maintained close links with Britain. This book examines the cultural and social implications of the relationship through a series of case studies that focus on British, Irish, and West Indian immigrants and their descendants in Mexico, Central and South America. OLIVER MARSHALL is an independent writer/researcher based in London. He was recently Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Latin American Studies, University of London. His previous publications include The Rough Guide to Brazil (with David Cleary and Dilwyn Jenkins), Ship of Hope: The Basque Refugee Children and The English Language Press in Latin America.
