   The limbic brain, emotions and judgements

   The book attempts to uncover the mysteries of the brain and seeks a physiological explanation for the experience of love. To do this, the triune brain is introduced in its three parts - the reptilian, limbic and neocortex. Most of the focus of the book concerns the limbic brain and its primary role in emotions and value judgements. There are very interesting and informative discussions, and examples from real life. Some of these could be very helpful for people struggling with emotional issues, and seeking to understand why they experience life the way they do. this includes some introduction to psychological disorders such as depression, memory loss, and personality disorders. Whilst the overall information about functionality is fascinating, the presumed evolutionary basis for the brain is a constant irritant, and feels like an advert in the middle of a interesting program on YouTube, a short break from reality to a "Just so" story worthy of Kipling. As the divergent psychotherapies multiply, the author acknowledges that most of them show mostly neutral results, yet cost lots of money. in the author's opinion it is the relationship building between the limbic brain of two individuals, therapist and patient, that is really necessary and which also works. A far cry from the Freudian standoffish clinical coldness, and necessity of keeping ones distance.
