    Helen Hanson is an experienced artist and tutor. As a professional printmaker, she exhibited her landscape etchings in galleries and exhibitions throughout the UK. She was a council member of the Society of Women Artists and is a fellow of the Society of Botanical Artists.

    When this arrived, I felt the need to create a new term for the style and came up with Soft Realism. That’s to say: detailed, sharp outlines in ink with a more impressionistic background supplied with pleasantly subtle pencil work. It’s not pen & wash because pencils capture a lot more detail as well as graduation and shading. There’s no shortage of books on coloured pencil work, but this is, I think, unique and Helen Hanson explains both her aims andworking methods thoroughly.
