Beskrivning
Wild Marx seeks to transform the revolutionary European thinker Karl Marx by opening him to the power of Indigenous struggles-lifeforms.The book begins with an introduction of Marx-Engels to a non-European world by means of the classic works of Peruvian intellectual and Marxist thinker, José Carlos Mariátegui. Following that, a dialogue is staged between the political theory of Marx and French Anthropologist Pierre Clastres. Here, Tible lays the groundwork on how to imagine a contemporary Marx capable of thinking-struggling alongside Amerindian collectivities. In the second half of the book, Tible moves to create a productive tension between Marx and the work of the Brazilian anthropologist Eduardo Viveiros de Castro. Here he discusses Viveiros de Castro’s ethnological concept of Amazonian perspectivism and the cosmopolitical manifesto of Yanomami shaman Davi Kopenawa and his notion of “the People of Merchandise”.Wild Marx is essential reading for students and scholars and opens new fields of research on Indigenous movements and struggles in Latin America and beyond.
