Beskrivning
Against the backdrop of globalisation, this book puts forth innovative educational perspectives that address the pressing global need for sustainable thinking through collaboration and innovation. The book delves into existing tensions between education that both promotes education for public good while supporting employability in a world governed by neoliberal politics and capitalism. Chapters consequently present rich and globally diverse case studies of how education can resist the purposes set out by a neoliberal agenda and aspire to student equity, co-responsibility, and democratic ability. This call for a values-based and citizenship-oriented and interdisciplinary education is explored through investigation of teachers’ professional development, their research partnerships and, ultimately, educational leadership, looking in depth at knowledge transmission and the production of skills. Contributions are truly diverse, stretching across Northern Europe, the USA, UK, and Asia. The book will be of interest to scholars, researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of teacher education, citizenship, and the theory of education more broadly. Policy makers involved with curriculum design or social network analysis may also find the volume of use.
