    Beskrivning

Vocational education and training (VET) are major stepping stones in the development journey of any nation. A carefully structured and implemented VET system ensures skill development and equips the existing and prospective workforce with the necessary technical proficiency, thereby reducing unemployment and increasing productivity. This handbook is designed to provide the readers with a comprehensive understanding of the ways in which VET has been implemented in both highly developed and developing countries around the globe, including Germany, Japan, China, India, and countries in Africa and Latin America, among others. It looks at how VET plays a crucial role in empowering a nation, acts as a comparative advantage, and contributes to nation-building. In the process, it highlights the best practices and fallacies related to VET and showcases how effective vocational training can allow countries to confront existing deficits in employment and decent work. This comprehensive handbook will interest policymakers, government officials, corporate executives, and professionals in education, education policy, curriculum design, teaching and learning, adult education, lifelong learning, and classroom practice. It will also be valuable for technical education students and individuals working in executive training programmes, public sector enterprises, and NGOs related to VET. Offering 16 essential success factors, the handbook provides practical guidance for the national implementation of VET, helping countries adopt global best practices while addressing challenges with unique insights.

‘The NEP 2020 has been a game-changer where equal importance is given to skilling and general education to create holistic employable and entrepreneurial individuals. To turn this into reality, there was a need for creating a handbook to handhold and mentor educational institutes. Two well-known educationists and management experts, Prof. Jagadish Sheth and Prof. Samik Shome, have come up with such a book integrating skill-based education with mainstream education. This would guide us on the right path to approach in achieving the goal.’Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of National Educational Technology Forum (NETF), Ministry of Education, Govt. of India‘The Handbook of Vocational Education and Training: Foundation for Transforming the Nation emphasises the pivotal role of VET systems in addressing skill gaps, fostering economic transformation, and promoting social inclusivity through global best practices and technological advancements. It advocates for embedding VET in national strategies to empower individuals, strengthen industries, and align workforce development with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.’Prof. Raj Nehru, Founding Vice-Chancellor, Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, India‘The Handbook of Vocational Education by Prof. Jagdish Sheth and Prof. Samik Shome is an invaluable resource for fostering skill-oriented education by bridging academia and industry.
