Collective Radical Curation in Literacy Education

This book offers an innovative approach to literacies research that blends community-, practitioner-, and arts-based research to unearth the genius and vision of Girls and Femmes of Color (GFOC) striving toward justice.The book explores the ways an arts collective of five GFOC self-named The Simmering Spices, envision and enacted educational justice through a praxis of collective radical curation in an arts- and community-based research project, ultimately creating a gallery exhibition of GFOC art exploring the theme of educational justice. Building from Feminist of Color approaches to literacies and knowledge making, the author offers an in-depth exploration of what she theorizes as collective radical curation, a pedagogical and research method that allows for collective knowledge making by taps into GFOC’s multiple raced and gendered literacies. The book provides a vivid picture of what this praxis can look like, tracing the pedagogy and research methods engaged by the Simmering Spices throughout their curatorial process.
