Beskrivning
Exploring the blurring of boundaries between work and the rest of life, this book explains how individuals, teams, and organizations can navigate the hidden costs of digital work to restore structure and balance in their daily lives. Each chapter follows one of four composite characters: a product manager who cannot locate the end of the workday, a colleague who delivers strong results but can no longer say what any of it was for, a team leader who has become the bottleneck in a team built not to need one, and an HR professional who runs recovery workshops but cannot sleep. Rooted in research, interviews and practice, chapters move from story to evidence to practice, drawing on meta-analytic findings, randomized trials and the operating models of organizations including GitLab, Dropbox, Haier, Decathlon and the LEGO Group. It shows how the erosion of meaning, leadership bottlenecks and failed recovery caused by always-on work are problems of design rather than personal weakness, and demonstrates how to redesign the conditions that produce them. The book is written for managers and HR professionals leading distributed or hybrid teams and workers who want more control over how their work feels. It will also interest students and researchers in organizational behaviour, human resource management and work psychology, as well as executive education and professional development programmes.

'Work no longer stops when we close our laptops. This important book shows how we can protect our energy and rediscover meaning in everyday work. A highly accessible guide for employees and leaders who want to create work that keeps people healthy, engaged, and productive.'Erasmus University Rotterdam, professor of work and organizational psychology, among the most cited scientists in the world'In a world that constantly demands our attention, the greatest gift we can give ourselves is the ability to choose where it goes. Our attention shapes our thoughts, our relationships, and ultimately, our lives. May this book inspire you to reclaim your attention and live more fully in an endlessly distracting digital world.'Sara Isaković, Olympic medalist and performance psychologist'We keep asking people to develop more resilient minds to cope with increasingly fluid work. We should also ask whether work itself needs to become more stable. This book opens an important conversation about how organizational design affects human well-being. A practical, research-informed guide to managing ourselves and others with greater clarity, confidence, and care.'Carin-Isabel Knoop, Harvard Business School, Executive Director, Case Research & Writing Group'When, where and how we work was once bounded by a workplace and a working day. However, technology combined with new ways of working has disrupted many of our routines and the boundaries between work and non-work are now more fluid. The book provides an evidence-based explanation of why work encroaches so much on our wider lives and more importantly how individuals, teams, and organisations can restore some of the structure that digital work has quietly removed. It will be a valuable resource for anyone trying to find better balance between work and personal time in the modern world of work. I highly recommend it.'Professor David Collings, Trinity Business School, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland
