Beskrivning
You didn't come to teaching the traditional way, and that turns out to be good news. Real World to Real Classrooms is for the career changers who walk into a classroom wondering whether they belong there. They do. The years you spent managing a project, calming a room, leading a business, or caring for someone who needed you are not a detour from teaching. They are where your best instincts come from. This book helps you find them and use them. You'll shape a Teacher Profile to reflect on the educator you're becoming, learn to read the school around you, and pick up essential vocabulary. Along the way, you’ll also gain strategies on professional practices such as navigating school culture, planning instruction, using assessment, and fostering student engagement, shared ownership, and lasting relationships. This warm, research-grounded book is for anyone taking an alternative path to becoming a teacher, whether you’re changing careers from another industry or a recent graduate looking to fast-track a new career. With the helpful takeaways in each chapter, you’ll have ideas to try tomorrow, and something to build on for years.

Recensioner i media

"In district after district, I meet teachers who arrived by an alternative route and found a support system designed for someone else. Brueggeman, Prendergast, and Deacon take the more useful position: A prior career is an instructional asset, not a gap to close. Written for those teachers, this book is just as valuable to the mentors, coaches, and leaders who shape their first years."—Allison Rodman, Founder, The Learning Loop; author of Personalized Professional Learning and Still Learning"Teachers entering the profession through alternative pathways can often feel isolated and in waiting for someone to provide answers to the challenges they are already encountering. Brueggeman, Pendergast, and Deacon do not pretend to offer every answer. Instead, they provide something more empowering: a thoughtful and practical guide that helps alternatively certified teachers recognize how their prior careers, experiences, and skills can become some of their greatest strengths in the classroom. As a veteran educator who entered teaching through an alternative pathway, I wish I had possessed this book when I began my journey. Now, as an educational leader in Peer Assistance and Review, I would confidently recommend it to educators at every stage of the alternative certification journey."—M. Scott Kopf, Coordinator, St. Louis Plan (Peer Assistance and Review)“Stepping into teaching from another career often feels like performing without a script. The authors decode the unwritten rules of school life for career-changers, showing us how our past work experience is actually our greatest asset. Packed with practical tools and real-life experience, this is the ultimate guidebook for setting up a successful classroom beyond just surviving day one.”—Amberlynn Morgan, Alternatively Licensed 6th-Grade Teacher
