    Beskrivning

Finance and Energy Transition in Asia: Toward Net-Zero Emissions examines the critical role of finance in accelerating the transition to a low-carbon future and achieving global net-zero emissions targets.Bringing together perspectives from energy policy, sustainable finance, and transition studies, this book explores how climate-related transition risks are reshaping the behaviors of financial institutions, investors, energy companies, and governments across Asia. It investigates the implications of stranded fossil fuel assets, restrictive coal financing, green finance initiatives, and emerging approaches to transformative finance that seek to drive sustainability transitions. Combining literature reviews, econometric analysis, scenario analyses, case studies, and field research, the study assesses the impacts of net-zero transitions on GDP, CO2 emissions, and industries ranging from electricity generation to critical mineral extraction. It also highlights the unintended consequences of energy transitions, including carbon leakage and cross-border spillover effects, through analyses of China’s energy and mobility transitions and Indonesia’s nickel mining and smelting sector. This book will appeal to scholars and students of sustainable finance, energy policy, environmental economics, and Asian studies, as well as policymakers, financial professionals, and practitioners seeking to understand the opportunities and challenges of financing and addressing the transition to a net-zero economy.

    Recensioner i media

"This book comes at the right time, as Asia needs to understand how climate-related transition risks—stranded fossil fuel assets—will reshape the region's financial and energy systems. It examines the behaviours of banks and investors toward green finance, drawing on case studies from China, Japan, and Indonesia. The book argues that new business model innovations are needed for "transformative finance," while highlighting the carbon leakage and spillover effects that energy transitions generate across sectors and countries. Academics and policymakers interested in the financial dimensions of climate transition will learn a great deal from this book."Budy P. Resosudarmo, Professor, Arndt-Corden Department of Economics, Australian National University, Canberra, 17 June 2026.
