Beskrivning
The 1980s saw the development of many initiatives designed to bring education and industry closer together. The focus of many of these initiatives, such as TVEI, was primarily upon the school curriculum. The professional development of teachers was seen as a pre-requisite for curriculum development. Often, the benefits of the relationship were viewed as flowing one way; that it, what industry can do for education.Originally published in 1992, the 1990s had begun with a new emphasis upon education-business partnership and mutual benefit. Although many of the case studies of innovative practice described in this book are of the 1980s, their ethos is firmly that of the 1990s. The book offers a comprehensive account of all the various strategies which involve bringing industrialists and teachers together for mutual benefit. Set against the context of the emerging education-business partnerships, the authors draw out the lessons of previous practice for TECs, EBPs, LEAs, companies and schools. The book is organized in two parts. Part 1 provides several examples of the different roles which industrialists can play in curriculum development, professional development and school organizational development as industrial governor; ambassador; trainer; or consultant. Part 2 focuses on the professional development of teachers through links with industry. Today it can be read in its historical context.
