Jack Reynolds is Professor of Philosophy at Deakin University, Australia, a Member of the ARC College of Experts, and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities (FAHA). His research has been supported by Australian Research Council grants and an NHMRC Ideas grant (2025-27) on Tourette's Syndrome. He is the author of several other books, including Phenomenology, Naturalism, and Science: A Hybrid and Heretical Proposal (2018) and Analytic versus Continental: Arguments on the Methods and Value of Philosophy (2010, with James Chase). His recent work has become more interdisciplinary in nature, while continuing to address philosophical and empirical issues concerning embodiment, temporality, and social cognition, including their variability.
A thorough and original re-examination of Merleau-Ponty’s thought in light of his contribution to contemporary debates on 4E cognition. Essential reading for anyone wishing to understand what the philosophy of mind owes to Merleau-Ponty and what aspects of his thought remain relevant to contemporary thinking.
