    Beskrivning

The sixth edition of the best-selling Counseling Children and Adolescents offers readers a comprehensive exploration of the practice of counselling young clients. The book introduces several theories that have proven effective with young clients, then couples that information with developmentally and culturally appropriate interventions and counselling techniques.Additional chapters explore working with children who are historically disenfranchised and placed at-risk, children with exceptionalities, and youth affected by challenging circumstances. Other topics addressed in the text include working with parents and families in school and mental health settings, creative counselling techniques, basic counselling skills, and ethical considerations specific to children and adolescents. This edition retains the features of previous editions prized by instructors and students alike but incorporates important updates. A new chapter on trauma has been added and references, examples, and case studies have been updated as appropriate to reflect the current times. The accompanying Cognella Active Learning for students includes 16 brand-new videos that help make concepts come alive. This book features highly informative chapters and information based on rich experience of the authors. With an emphasis on practical applications and empirically based approaches, it is ideal for graduate-level courses in counselling, psychology, marriage and family, or social work, as well as for practitioners working with young clients.

    Recensioner i media

Praise for the Previous Editions: “This textbook has been a staple in my graduate course focusing on counseling youth. It is well organized, easy to read, and is full of various case vignettes, exercises, empirically-based approaches, and developmentally appropriate interventions that can enhance the reader’s knowledge and skills in counseling children and adolescents.” —Atiya R. Smith, Ph.D., LCPC, NCC, CATP, Hood College “Having been a child and adolescent therapist for many years prior to coming into academia, I found that many textbooks have excellent theory, but I personally have had to be the voice and experience from the field, until now. This text blends theory with practice and offers immediate tools that students can implement in internships even as they go through the course." — Ingrid Weiss Slikkers, Andrews University “The text Counseling Children and Adolescents is an outstanding compilation of best practices to use with the population of children and adolescents and is presented in a fun and engaging way!” —Merranda Romero Marin, New Mexico State University “This text fills the gap by explicitly providing content and illustrations that connect developmental considerations of children and adolescents to the counselors use of theory, problem assessment, and interventions for both school counselors and clinical mental health practitioners with attention to serving culturally diverse youth populations.” —Sarah Brant-Rajahn, Messiah University “I have used this textbook for my course for several semesters and it is comprehensive and a great resource for my students” —Anjanette Todd, University of Texas at El Paso "I have been utilizing Ann Vernon's Counseling Children and Adolescents textbook in my Counselor Education programs since 2009, and I absolutely love her work. Her book is very understandable, engaging, and timely. Her case studies are highly applicable, and teaching adjuncts that are provided with the text (multiple choice questions, essay questions, class activities, and manual) are excellent pedagogical supplements that complement her text superbly - some of the best my students and I have ever experienced!" —Suzanne A. Whitehead, Ed.D., LMHC, NCC, MAC, LAC, Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator - Counselor Education, California State University, Stanislaus “This text offers an approachable application to counseling children and teens. The conversational tone makes it palatable; the terrific content makes it relevant.” —Elizabeth Keller-Dupree, Associate Professor of Psychology, Northeastern State University “This text is by far the best I have used in my 20 plus years as a counselor educator for our counseling children and counseling adolescents courses. It provides just the right mix of current research and theory along with concise case examples that bring to life the most important content. The topics covered are especially appropriate for our school counseling M.Ed. students.” —Greg Brigman, Ph.D., Professor of Counselor Education, Florida Atlantic University “Well-organized book that is easy to read. Every chapter starts with a case example that sets the tone for the material that will be discussed. Authors provide multiple examples and developmentally appropriate interventions that make the book even more valuable.” —Hanna Lainas, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Texas A&M International University
