Recensioner i media

Begins with the author's welcome, first line being 'The journey is about to begin. Welcome to my world'...The book is full of loosely painted subjects, domestic pets, wild animals, flowers, people and even a baby, all illustrations of creative inspiration. Jean encourages experimentation citing each painting as a new adventure, a very thought-provoking prospect. There are lots of suggestions to try out plus lots of demonstrations. I particularly like 'Demonstration of a Simple Kingfisher'. Commencing with the use of a rigger brush for small areas of colour for the eye. Titles of sections such as: Watercolour Workout, Colour Gym, Watercolour Warm-up Exercises, draw one in and encourage further exploration only to want more.I know watercolour is not the same as silk painting, but I work a lot with No Flow, with which I treat silk prior to painting and it is very like painting with watercolour. I freely admit the book does motivate me to try the techniques and follow the demonstrations. The final three pages of the book contain quotes Jean often uses to establish the ideas she wishes to put across when teaching. A good quote to remember: "When we keep our imagination open, we never know what we may achieve."
