Thomas DaCosta Kaufmann is the Frederick Marquand Professor of Art and Archaeology at Princeton University. His work focuses on European art and architecture from 1500 to 1800 within a global context, as well as world art history, and the geography and historiography of art. He is a member of the Swedish, Polish, and Flemish Academies of Sciences and has received the Palacký Medal from the Czech Academy of Sciences, among other honors. The Technische Universität Dresden, the Masaryk University, Brno (Czech Republic) and the University of Lisbon have awarded him honorary doctorates. He has published 15 books that have been translated into a variety of languages, edited five more, and authored more than 250 articles and reviews; two additional books are currently in press.
