Beskrivning
What value does sharing personal family narratives through film hold in collective history? Can storytelling between family members on-screen signify cultural empowerment for different generations? Focusing on contemporary Croatian documentary cinema, Marija Katalinić explores how filmmaking serves as a self-reflexive strategy that challenges and fractures dominant narratives of collective history in the post-Yugoslav landscape. Through the lenses of vulnerability, family, trauma, and memory, her study examines the public sharing of personal stories on screen, with particular attention to gender and kinship through the interplay of politics, arts, and culture. An essential resource for students, scholars, and researchers in visual culture, memory studies, cultural studies, and film studies.
