This congress proceedings provides recent research results and findings on leading-edge manufacturing processes. Main aim of this scientific congress is to push forward existing borders in production and to provide novel solutions of "Production at the Leading Edge of Manufacturing Technology.The subtitle “Technology-Based Sustainable Production for Circular Economy” of this year’s congress emphasizes challenges for global productions in the light of climate change and resource scarcity. This book presents a selection of peer-reviewed papers from the 16th European Robotics Forum (ERF) of euRobotics, the European Robotics Association, held in Stuttgart, Germany, from March 25–27, 2025.

Generative Fertigungsverfahren wie Rapid Prototyping oder Rapid Manufacturing wurden für den Prototypenbau entwickelt. Diese Verfahren bieten zum einen die Möglichkeit einer werkzeuglosen Herstellung direkt aus CAD-Daten. Zum anderen können hochkomplexe Geometrien gebaut werden, die mit keinem anderen Verfahren umsetzbar sind. Auf Grund dieser Eigenschaften sowie der immer besser werdenden Qualität der Produkte werden Generative Fertigungsverfahren zunehmend auch für Bauteile und Kleinserien eingesetzt. Dies gilt insbesondere für das Selektive Lasersintern. Deshalb gehen die Autoren nach einem Überblick über die generativen Verfahren und deren Möglichkeiten speziell auf das Selektive Lasersintern von Kunststoffen ein. Sie stellen dieses Verfahren vor und zeigen die Regeln auf, die zur Konstruktion von Produkten eingehalten werden müssen. Dabei werden allgemeine Lösungsstrategien aufgezeigt und spezielle Lösungselemente beschrieben. Im Anwendungsteil werden Umsetzungsbeispiele bereits existierender Produkte vorgestellt. Sie stammen aus den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen wie Automatisierung, Medizintechnik oder Konsumgüter.

Das Buch paßt zum "Megatrend", die Produktion weitestgehend zu automatisieren. Erstmals haben Wissenschaftler hinterfragt, welches die Geheimnisse von Unternehmen sind, die ihre Produktion erfolgreich automatisieren und warum andere Unternehmen daran scheitern. Dieses Wissen ist nicht nur für Techniker, sondern auch für Kaufleute wichtig. Die Erfolgsfaktoren wurden identifiziert und das Vorgehen bei erfolgreichen Automatisierungsprojekten anschaulich beschrieben. The research areas as well as the knowledge gained for the practical use of robots are growing and expanding beyond manufacturing and industrial automation, making inroads in sectors such as health care and terrain sensing, as well as general assistive systems working in close interaction with humans. In a situation like this, it is necessary for future robot systems to become less stiff and more specialized by taking inspiration from the mechanical compliance and versatility found in natural materials and organisms. At present, a new discipline is emerging in this area, called »Soft Robotics«. It particularly challenges the traditional thinking of engineers, as the confluence of technologies, ranging from new materials, sensors, actuators and production techniques to new design tools, will make it possible to create new systems whose structures are almost completely made of soft materials, which bring about entirely new functions and behaviors, similar in many ways to natural systems. These Proceedings focus on four main topics: • Soft Actuators and Control • Soft Interactions • Soft Robot Assistants: Potential and Challenges • Human-centered »Soft Robotics«.
