The Ethics of Development: An Introduction systematically and comprehensively examines the ethical issues surrounding the concept of development. The book addresses important questions such as:
What does development mean? Is there a human right to development? If we aim for sustainable development in an age of global climate change, should developed nations sacrifice economic growth for the sake of allowing developing countries to catch up? Should eradication of poverty or diminution of radical inequality be the principal focus of developmental policy? What are the macroeconomic theories of development? And how have they informed development policy? How does development work in practice?
Featuring case studies throughout, this textbook provides a philosophical introduction to an incredibly topical issue studied by students within the fields of applied ethics, global justice, economics, politics, sociology, and public policy.

Thisness Presentism outlines and defends a novel version of presentism, the view that only present entities exist and what is present really changes, a view of time that captures a real and objective difference between what is past, present, and future, and which offers a model of reality that is dynamic and mutable, rather than static and immutable. The book advances a new defence of presentism by developing a novel ontology of thisness, combining insights about the nature of essence, the metaphysics of propositions, and the relationship between true propositions and the elements of reality that make them true, alongside insights about time itself. It shows how, by accepting an ontology of thisness, presentists can respond to a number of pressing challenges to presentism, including claims that presentism cannot account for true propositions about the past, and that it is inconsistent with the reality of temporal passage and the openness of the future. This is one of the only book-length defences of presentism. It will be of interest to students and scholars working on the debate about presentism in the philosophy of time, as well as those interested in the metaphysics of propositions and truth-making, more generally.

This book combines film studies with environmental history and politics, aiming to establish a cultural criticism informed by ''green'' thought. David Ingram argues that Hollywood cinema has largely perpetuated romantic attitudes to nature and has played an important ideological role in the ''greenwashing'' of ecological discourses.
The book accounts for the rise of environmental concerns in Hollywood cinema, and explores the ways in which attitudes to nature and the environment are constructed in a number of movies. It is divided into three sections: Wilderness in Hollywood Cinema; Wild Animals in Hollywood Cinema; Development and the Politics of Land Use.

The Communist Economic Challenge (1965) examines the substantial industrial development in the Soviet Union, and its European satellites, and China, looking at Khrushchev’s boast that by 1970 the USSR’s industrial output would surpass that of the USA. The book analyses the communist record, and evaluates the reality of the Soviet claims that its growth was a mark of the ‘inherent superiority’ of its economic system over capitalism.
