Founded in 1973, the society has been the leading platform for the presentation of many of the technological and conceptual developments within the field both at the meetings themselves and in the proceedings of the society. These have been published first by Plenum Publishing (1973), then by Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers and presently by Springer Publishing, all in the Advances In Expe- mental Medicine and Biology Series. The 36th Annual ISOTT conference was held in Sapporo, Japan during August 3–7, 2008. It was the second occasion that the ISOTT meeting was held in Japan; the first one was held in the same place in 1987 organized by Professor Masaji Mochizuki.

Der Band versammelt Beiträge, die anlässlich des 7. Seoul-Freiburger Rechtswissenschaftlichen Symposiums im September 2019 in Seoul gehalten wurden. Die Zusammenarbeit und der akademische Austausch zwischen den juristischen Fakultäten der Seoul National University (SNU) und der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg hat eine alte und wertvolle Tradition der engen Beziehungen zwischen dem koreanischen und dem deutschen Recht lebendig gehalten.Das 7. Symposium war dem Thema "Rechtstheorie und -auslegung in einer dynamischen Gesellschaft" gewidmet und deckte ein breites Spektrum an Themen ab, die in sechs Sektionen unterteilt waren: I. Rechtstheorie und -auslegung, II. Unternehmensrecht, III. Internationales Privatrecht und Zivilprozessrecht, IV. Recht der künstlichen Intelligenz, Eigentumsrecht und Strafrecht. V. Vertragsrecht, und VI. das Verhältnis von supranationalem und innerstaatlichem Verfassungsrecht. Die meisten der auf dem Symposium gehaltenen Vorträge sind in diesem Band versammelt.

Der Band enthält die Vorträge des 6. Seoul-Freiburg Law-Faculties Symposium, das im Juni 2016 in Freiburg i. Br. stattfand. Seit ihrem Beginn im Jahre 1996 hat die Partnerschaft zwischen der Law School der Seoul National University und der Rechtswissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Albert-Ludwigs Universität vielfältige Früchte getragen, wesentlich zum gegenseitigen Verständnis des Rechtsdenkens und der Rechtsforschung in beiden Rechtskulturen und Rechtsordnungen beigetragen und damit zugleich die ebenso alte wie wertvolle Tradition der engen Verknüpfung zwischen koreanischem und deutschem Recht fortgeführt. Wie bereits die vorangehenden Symposien widmete sich das Symposium des Jahres 2016 mit dem Generalthema "Relationship between the Legislature and the Judiciary" einem grundsätzlichen Problem, dessen spezifische Ausprägungen im Verfassungsrecht, in der Rechtstheorie, im Privatrecht, im Strafrecht, im Handelsrechts und im Verwaltungsrechts Gegenstand der Vorträge und Diskussionen waren.Mit Beiträgen vonUn Jong Pak, Matthias Jestaedt, Ralf Poscher, Hong Sik Cho, Kye Joung Lee, Frank Schäfer, Jinsu Yune, Jan von Hein, Sank Won Lee, Ok-Rial Song, Boris Paal, Maximilian Haedicke, Seongwook Heo, Dongjin Lee

Das japanische Handels- und Gesellschaftsrecht ist ganz maßgeblich durch das deutsche Recht mit bestimmt worden. So rezipierte Japan beispielsweise die deutschen Prinzipien der Aufbringung, dauernden Erhaltung und zur Beständigkeit des Grundkapitals der AG.Neuere Entwicklungen im japanischen Handels- und Gesellschaftsrecht sind nicht mehr auf eine Rezeption des deutschen Rechts zurückzuführen. Vielmehr entsteht eine Konvergenz zwischen beiden Rechtsordnungen unter maßgeblichen Einfluss des US-amerikanischen Rechts. Beispielhaft hierfür ist die Einführung der "Business Judgement Rule" in beiden Rechtsordnungen. Japan hat diese Rechtslehre richterrechtlich eingeführt.Dieses Buch führt die Beiträge von Eiji Takahashi zur "Rezeption" und "Konvergenz" des deutschen Handels- und Gesellschaftsrechts in Japan zusammen. Der Autor hofft, dass Japan und Deutschland durch Dialog im Handels- und Gesellschaftsrecht weiterhin kontinuierlich voneinander lernen.
