This textbook concentrates on processes, activities and results related to software architectures. It describes the separation of architecture artefacts corresponding to their nature, their logical or their modeling level on one hand and at the same time emphasizes their integration based on their mutual relations. Design or development processes demand for integration, as different artifacts must be elaborated, which are mutually dependent and need to be in a consistent form.The book is structured in four parts. The introductory Part I deals with the relevance of architectures, the central role of the design subprocess both in development or maintenance, and the importance of the decisions and artefacts in the overall result. Another topic is the spectrum of views an architecture language has to offer, and that there are different architectures to be regarded, from abstract and static to detailed, technical, and specific. Part II then discusses “important topics” onthe architecture level. It deals with adaptability especially for embedded systems, with integrating styles/ pattern notations, with different reuse forms and how to find them, with the role of architectures for integrating different existing systems, and with reverse and reengineering of legacy systems. Next, Part III covers architecture modeling and its relation to surrounding activities, as well as architectures to surrounding other results. The single chapters are on transformation between requirements and architectures, architectures and programming, architectures and project management and organization, as well as architectures and their relations to quality assurance or documentation. Eventually, Part IV summarizes the main messages and presents open problems, both for every single chapter and across chapters. Every chapter focuses on a specific problem it addresses, a question it answers, the attention it demands, a message it conveys, and further open questions it raises. The chapters are mostly independent, which implies a certain redundancy, yet it allows lecturers (and their students) to either use the book as the basis of teaching software architecture or design, or to just pick those aspects that need special attention in a more advanced course.

The generic term "graph-grammars" refers to a variety of methods for specifying (possibly infinite) sets of graphs or sets of maps. The area of graph-grammars originated in the late 60s motivated by considerations concerning pattern recognition - since then the list of areas which have interacted with the development of graph-grammars has grown quite impressively. It includes pattern recognition, software specification and development, VLSI layout schemes, data bases, lambda-calculus, analysis of concurrent systems, massively parallel computer architectures, incremental compilers, computer animation, complexity theory, developmental biology, music composition, representation of physical solids, and many others. This volume is based on the contributions presented at the third international workshop on graph-grammars and their applications, held in Warrenton, Virginia, USA in December 1986. Aiming at the best possible representation of the field not all of the papers presented at the meeting appear in this volume and some of the papers from this volume were not presented at the workshop. The volume consists of two parts: Part I presents tutorial introductions to a number of basic graph and map rewriting mechanisms. Part II contains technical contributions. This collection of papers provides the reader with an up-to-date overview of current trends in graph-grammars.

Ada 95 ist die zweite und aktuelle Version der Programmiersprache Ada 83. Wichtige Kon strukte sind hinzugekommen, insbesondere für Objektorientierung und Nebenläufigkeit. Ada entstand aus einer Initiative des Verteidigungsministeriums der USA (Department of Defense, DoD). Neben dem speziellen Anwendungsbereich Realzeitsysteme/eingebettete Systeme wer den verschiedene andere Anwendungsbereiche durch spezielIe Erweiterungen unterstützt. Im Gegensatz zu früheren Jahren sind mittlerweile auch preiswerte, ja sogar kostenlose Compiler verfügbar. In den USA findet derzeit ein merklicher Teil der Programmier-Grundausbildung in Ada statt. Dies alles wird die Verbreitung der Sprache über die bereits vorhandene Ada Gemeinde hinaus verstärken. Dieses Buch ist eine Einführung in die Sprache Ada 95. Es ist nicht für Ada-Compilerentwick Ier gedacht. Hier steht die methodische Verwendung der Sprache im Vordergrund und nicht die Abgrenzung erlaubter von nichterlaubten Konstruktionen. Trotzdem solI bei einer Unklarheit bezüglich der Verwendung von Ada hier eine Antwort auffindbar sein. Dieses Buch ist auch nicht als Einführung in das systematische Programmieren für Anfänger gedacht. Statt dessen wendet es sich an Personen, die bereits Erfahrung im Programmieren mit mindestens einer höheren Pro grammiersprache haben. Dies kann auch Fortran, Cobol oder Csein. Für diesen Personenkreis ist dieses Buch sowohl als Grundlage und Begleittext sowohl für Vorlesungen oder Kurse, als auch zum Selbststudium geeignet. Die Kenntnis einer neueren, höheren Ausbildungs-Programmier sprache, wie etwa Modula-2 oder -3, ist zwar nicht Voraussetzung für das Lesen, erleichtert jedoch den Einstieg.
