Dieser Band erhält besondere Aktualität durch den im Februar 2003 von der Europäischen Kommission vorgelegten Aktionsplan "Ein kohärenteres europäisches Vertragsrecht". Vor diesem Hintergrund gehen die Autoren der englischen und deutschen Beiträge der Frage nach, inwieweit aus dem bestehenden Gemeinschaftsrecht, dem sog. Acquis communautaire, verallgemeinerbare Leitlinien für die künftige Entwicklung des europäischen Privatrechts gewonnen werden können. Der Band beruht auf den Ergebnissen einer Tagung, die im Januar 2003 bei der Europäischen Rechtsakademie Trier in Kooperation mit der kürzlich gegründeten Acquis-Group stattgefunden hat.
