Embedded and ubiquitous computing are emerging rapidly as exciting new paradigms and disciplines to provide computing and communication services all the time, everywhere. Its systems are now invading every aspect of life to the point that they are disappearing inside all sorts of appliances or can be worn unobtrusively as part of clothing and jewelry, etc. This emergence is a natural outcome of research and technological advances in embedded systems, pervasive computing and communications, wireless networks, mobile computing, distri- ted computing and agent technologies, etc. Its explosive impact on academia, industry, government and daily life can be compared to that of electric motors over the past century but promises to revolutionize life much more profoundly than elevators, electric motors or even personal computer evolution ever did. The EUC 2004 conference provided a forum for engineers and scientists in academia, industry, and government to address all the resulting profound ch- lenges including technical, safety, social, legal, political, and economic issues, and to present and discuss their ideas, results, work in progress and experience on all aspects of embedded and ubiquitous computing. It provides a means to solve computati- ally intensive problems by improving processing speed. It is also the only - ableapproachtobuildinghighlyreliableandinherentlydistributedapplications. ISPA2004 provided a forum for scientists and engineers in academia and ind- try to exchange and discuss their experiences, new ideas, research results, and applications about all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. There was a very large number of paper submissions (361) from 26 countries and regions, including not only Asia and the Paci?c, but also Europe and North America. All submissions were reviewed by at least three program or technical committee members or external reviewers. It was extremely di?cult to select the presentations for the conference because there were so many excellent and interesting submissions. In order to allocate as many papers as possible and keep the high quality of the conference, we ?nally decided to accept 78 regular papers and 38 short papers for oral technical presentations. We believe that all of these papers and topics not only provide novel ideas, new results, work in progress and state-of-the-art techniques in this ?eld, but also stimulate the future research activities in the area of parallel and distributed computing with applications.

Welcome to the post proceedings of the First International Conference on Embedded Software and Systems (ICESS 2004), which was held in Hangzhou, P. R. China, 9–10 December 2004. Embedded Software and Systems technology is of increasing importance for a wide range of industrial areas, such as aerospace, automotive, telecommunication, and manufacturing automation. Embedded technology is playing an increasingly dominant role in modern society. This is a natural outcome of amazingly fast developments in the embedded field. The ICESS 2004 conference brought together researchers and developers from academia, industry, and government to advance the science, engineering, and technology in embedded software and systems development, and provided them with a forum to present and exchange their ideas, results, work in progress, and experience in all areas of embedded systems research and development. The ICESS 2004 conference attracted much more interest than expected. The total number of paper submissions to the main conference and its three workshops, namely, Pervasive Computing, Automobile Electronics and Tele-communication, was almost 400, from nearly 20 countries and regions. All submissions were reviewed by at least three Program or Technical Committee members or external reviewers. It was extremely difficult to make the final decision on paper acceptance because there were so many excellent, foreseeing, and interesting submissions with brilliant ideas.

Welcome to the proceedings of ISPA 2005 which was held in the city of Nanjing. Parallel computing has become a mainstream research area in computer science and the ISPA conference has become one of the premier forums for the presentation of new and exciting research on all aspects of parallel computing. We are pleased to present the proceedings for the 3rd International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications (ISPA 2005), which comprises a collection of excellent technical papers, and keynote speeches. The papers accepted cover a wide range of exciting topics, including architectures, software, networking, and applications. The conference continues to grow and this year a record total of 968 manuscripts (including workshop submissions) were submitted for consideration by the Program Committee or workshops. From the 645 papers submitted to the main conference, the Program Committee selected only 90 long papers and 19 short papers in the program. Eight workshops complemented the outstanding paper sessions.

The conference continues to grow and this year a record total of 277 ma- scriptsweresubmitted forconsiderationbytheProgramCommittee.Fromthese submissions the Program Committee selected only 79 regular papers in the p- gram, which re?ects the acceptance rate as 28%. An additional 10 workshops complemented the outstanding paper sessions. The submission and review process worked as follows. Each submission was assigned to at least three Program Committee members for review. Each P- gram Committee member prepared a single review for each assigned paper or assigned a paper to an outside reviewer for review. In addition, the Program Chairs and Program Vice-Chairs read the papers when a con?icting review - sult occurred. Finally, after much discussion among the Program Chairs and ProgramVice-Chairs, based on the review scores, the ProgramChairs made the ?nal decision. Given the large number of submissions, each ProgramCommittee member was assigned roughly 7–12 papers.

Welcome to the proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications (ISPA 2006), which was held in Sorrento, Italy, December, 4–6 2006. Parallel computing has become a mainstream research area in computer s- ence and the ISPA conference has become one of the premier forums for the p- sentation of new and exciting research on all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. We are pleased to present the proceedings for ISPA 2006, which comprises a collection of excellent technical papers and keynote speeches. It has been widely recognized that embedded and ubiquitous computing will have tremendous impacts on many aspects of our daily life. Innovation and close collaboration between academia and industry are the keys to guaranteeing success in the development and deployment of the technology in embedded and ubiquitous computing. TheIFIP InternationalConferenceonEmbeddedandUbiquitous Computing (EUC) provides a forum for engineers and scientists in academia, industry, and governmentto address challenges and to present and discuss their ideas, results, work in progress and experience. The Technical Program Committee (TPC) of EUC 2007 was lead by the TPC Chair, Tei-Wei Kuo, and TPC Vice Chairs. A strong international TPC was formed to review and evaluate the submissions. Each paper was reviewed carefully by at least three TPC members or external reviewers. It was extremely di?cult for the TPC to select the presentations because there were so many excellent and interesting submissions. There were 217 submissions from all over the world, and only 65 papers are published in this proceedings volume.
