The key question this volume addresses is 'how does Bonhoeffer's thought help to re(dis)cover the doctrine of Christ's two natures and one person and understand and renew it in its significance for a modern post-metaphysical and secular world?’The volume takes a fresh look at Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Christology and brings it into a fruitful dialogue with current Christological debates. In a multi-perspectival, pluralistic world, Bonhoeffer’s thinking offers a productive basis for conceptually incorporating the openness required for this task into academic theology. Bonhoeffer’s theology offers a starting point for the recovery of a productive Christology that reflects the plurality of the globalized world, as Bonhoeffer’s Christology begins precisely with this integration into worldly reality, whereby the world is understood in its plurality and polyphony. In this way, he characterizes his enterprise as follows: “What keeps gnawing at me is the question, what is Christianity, or who is Christ actually for us today” (DBWE 8, 362). Accordingly, it opens itself up not only to inner-Christian discussion but also to non-Christian worldviews, from which a basic ethical demand follows.

Discover how pressing contemporary moral issues can be approached and discussed in a distinct and coherently theological fashion. This book displays a more direct approach that has the distinct advantage of being approachable, dramatic, and contemporary. It introduces the reader to the grammar of Christian moral reasoning and expands upon its intricate inner workings.By demonstrating ways in which a Christian believer or congregation can think through specific moral issues, the volume serves a church desiring to witness God’s love in genuine and contextually truthful ways. Each chapter approaches its subject matter by demonstrating how the sources of Christian moral reasoning—Scripture and church doctrine—can be imaginatively brought to bear on contemporary moral perplexities. The form of teaching practices here makes tangible the ways in which the Christian gospel clearly and even penetratingly illumines our contemporary moral contexts.

Twelve original studies on Trinitarian theology and its enduring capacity to shape theological discourse, ecclesiology, and society today. The doctrine of the Trinity sits at the heart of Christian identity, shaping how Christians think about faith, worship, and community. The Nicene Creed, recited in churches across the world, invites not only a shared confession but also a deep and ongoing conversation about who God is and how God relates to the world. The Council’s articulation of the consubstantiality of the Son with the Father laid the foundation for Trinitarian doctrine and safeguarded the mystery of salvation. It continues to serve as a rich source of interdisciplinary exploration and inspire fresh theological inquiry into the mystery of divine communion, the incarnation of Christ, and the unity and identity of the Church. On the 1700th anniversary of this historic event, the essays in this volume collectively re-examine earlier debates, introduce fresh perspectives, and renew dialogue around doctrines as vital today as in the fourth century. Emphasising the value of constructive engagement between traditions and exploring how Trinitarian theology continues to inform Christian witness in a complex and changing world, this volume offers essential reading for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of a foundational aspect of Christian faith and history.

The Experience of the World as Creation. Studies on the Theology of Creation and Anthropology]This collection of articles by Wolfgang Schoberth provides insight into the great complexities of the theological doctrines of creation and anthropology. Fifteen contributions, all of which approach these broad fields from various perspectives, have been combined into one volume, whose foundation is the conception of God as Creator in relationship with his creatures, which is the key to understanding creation in its createdness. This volume is aimed at experts, students, as well as interested laity. Its analysis and reflections are concerned not merely with academic theology, but also with personal faith. It is therefore the goal of this volume to encourage and assist its readers in critical reflection on fundamental theological matters, and thereby ultimately deepen the reader´s descriptive sophistication with regard to their own beliefs.

Holy Scripture as Medium of Holiness]In 14 contributions to the theme of Holy Scripture and (its) holiness, this book provides insight into the complex field of theological hermeneutics and the related question of the holiness of Scripture from Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Jewish and Islamic perspectives. The discussion in this book helps to establish a reasoned and reflective approach to holiness and sacred texts, both within Christianity as well as interreligiously. It is precisely when sacred texts are not simply viewed from a secular standpoint, on the one hand, or completely within a separate sacralised reality on the other, that the holiness of these texts can be preserved and these texts can be understood as relevant for society.

Mit Beiträgen von Peter Dabrock, Alexander Deeg, Reinhard Feldmeier, Martin Hailer, Nadine Hamilton, Stephen Hamilton, Marco Hofheinz, Simon Layer, Ernstpeter Maurer, Stephan Mikusch, Andreas Nehring, Ingrid Schoberth, Walter Sparn und Hans Ulrich.[Teaching Faith]Is it possible to "teach faith"? Hardly: for faith is an event of God''s creative presence. Rather, there is something to teach and to learn in faith, as well for the sake of it. This is the noblest task of dogmatics, which can be called "the teachings of the faith" - but also simply "teaching faith". Rightly understood, such teachings of the faith are not a finished product to be memorized, but instead present a hermeneutical approach to the various subjects and questions involved in faith. In this spirit, the present volume presents studies on major topics in dogmatics and arranges them according to the classical loci scheme. Here, however, this task is not undertaken only by one systematic theologian, or even a group of systematic theologians, but instead by different authors from various theological disciplines. This interdisciplinary approach produces a conceptual creativity which characterises this book and is crucial for the process of "teaching faith" in general.

Inspiration – Effective Scripture as a theological challenge]In ten contributions, this conference volume explores the multi-perspective thematic field that the term "inspiration" opens up. The focus is on the tense relationship between inspiration and Holy Scripture based on pneumatological considerations. The field of discourse extends from inspiration to intuition and includes historical, phenomenological, aesthetic and (religious) philosophical dimensions. This makes it clear how fruitful the interweaving of systematic theological, exegetical, practical theological and religious studies perspectives is.Mit Beiträgen von Michael Coors, Peter Lampe, Johannes von Lüpke, Gerhard Marcel Martin, Ingrid Schoberth, Wolfgang Schoberth und Yan Suarsana.

Jahrhundert. Mit Beitragen von Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, Gernot Gerlach, Matthias Grebe, Michael Herbst, Florian Hohne, Karsten Lehmkuhler, Stephen Plant, Hartmut Rosenau, Christian Schicha und Christine Schliesser. [Church and Truth]This edited volume brings together the contributions from the 2023 and 2024 annual conferences of the International Bonhoeffer Society, German-speaking section (ibg). Inspired by Dietrich Bonhoeffer's profound reflections on church and truth , the authors address key questions of our time. The 2023 conference focused on the future of the church in the midst of a crisis, posing the question: What does it mean that Christ exists as the church when it is in crisis? In 2024, the central question was how we can speak of truth today in a world where digital media and fake news increasingly hinder the search for truth. Bonhoeffer's reflections on church and truth prove highly relevant, offering guidance for contemporary debates on credibility, ethics, and the church's testimony in the 21st century.
