Cet ouvrage propose un panorama des modalités d''existence diverses auxquelles ces interactions ont donné naissance dans l''Hexagone et en dehors. Après deux exposés généraux, vingt-neuf contributions présentent chacune une zone spécifique pour en décrire la situation sociolinguistique historique et actuelle, les politiques d’aménagement linguistique externe et interne, ainsi que les particularités du français qui y est pratiqué. Il en résulte la première description systématique des aires francophones réalisée selon des critères homogènes, qui ouvre ainsi la voie vers une typologie pluridimensionnelle des francophonies.

With more than two thousand languages spread over its territory, multilingualism is a common reality in Africa. The main official languages of most African countries are Indo-European, in many instances Romance. As they were primarily brought to Africa in the era of colonization, the areas discussed in this volume are thirty-five states that were once ruled by Belgium, France, Italy, Portugal, or Spain, and the African regions still belonging to three of them. Twenty-six states are presented in relation to French, four to Italian, six to Portuguese, and two to Spanish. They are considered in separate chapters according to their sociolinguistic situation, linguistic history, external language policy, linguistic characteristics, and internal language policy. The result is a comprehensive overview of the Romance languages in modern-day Africa. It follows a coherent structure, offers linguistic and sociolinguistic information, and illustrates language contact situations, power relations, as well as the cross-fertilization and mutual enrichment emerging from the interplay of languages and cultures in Africa.

Tabus sind Ausdruck des kulturellen Entwicklungsstandes und Selbstverständnisses einer Gesellschaft und reflektieren somit deren Mentalität und Wahrnehmung der Realität. Speziell sprachliche Tabus sind über Euphemismen greifbar, die eine optimale Grundlage für entsprechende Interpretationen darstellen. Auf diesem Hintergrund gilt der Band französischen und italienischen Euphemismen, wie sie entsprechend dem Sprachverständnis der Lexikographen zweier maßgebender Wörterbücher als solche ausgewiesen sind und sich bei umsichtiger Auswertung besonders gut für kulturvergleichende Betrachtungen eignen. Ausgehend von einer quantitativen und qualitativen Klassifizierung in Bezug auf formale und semantische Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede werden die Euphemismen in ihrer Raison d''être kultur- und mentalitätshistorisch erklärt und motivgeschichtlich in Bereichen verankert, die vom Magisch-Religiösen über das Ethisch-Ästhetische und Politisch-Korrekte bis hin zur „Ethik ohne Moral“ reichen. Dabei wird das Phänomen des Euphemismus in seinen Ursachen, Motiven und Funktionen getrennt betrachtet und einer Gesamtinterpretation zugeführt.
