Electrical drives play an important role as electromechanical energy convert ers in transportation, material handling and most production processes. The ease of controlling electrical drives is an important aspect for meeting the in creasing demands by the user with respect to flexibility and precision, caused by technological progress in industry as well as the need for energy conser vation. At the same time, the control of electrical drives has provided strong incentives to control engineering in general, leading to the development of new control structures and their introduction to other areas of control. This is due to the stringent operating conditions and widely varying specifications - a drive may alternately require control of torque, acceleration, speed or position - and the fact that most electric drives have - in contrast to chem ical or thermal processes - well defined structures and consistent dynamic characteristics. During the last years the field of controlled electrical drives has undergone rapid expansion due mainly to the advances of semiconductors in the form of power electronics as well as analogue and digital signal electronics, eventu ally culminating in microelectronics and microprocessors. The introduction of electronically switched solid-state power converters has renewed the search for adjustable speed AC motor drives, not subject to the limitations of the mechanical commutator of DC drives which dominated the field for a century. - Häftad, Engelska, 1997

This book covers the basics and the state of the art of energy-efficient motor technologies, which can be used now and in the near future to achieve significant and cost-effective energy savings. It describes recent developments in advanced motor technologies such as permanent magnet and reluctance motors. Energy-efficient motor technologies, though enabling a huge amount of electricity to be saved, still have not been widely adopted. The book presents barriers to the adoption of those technologies and features policies to promote the large scale penetration of energy-efficient technologies, describing the experiences carried out so far in different parts of the world. The volume includes contributions from relevant institutions in the European Union, North America, Latin America, Japan and New Zealand. - Inbunden, Tyska, 2000

- E-bokPDF, Engelska, 2019

The reduction of energy consumption through improvements in energy efficiency has become an important goal for all countries, in order to improve the efficiency of the economy, to increase energy supply security, and to reduce the emissions of CO and other pollutants caused by power· generation. 2 Electric motors use over half of all electricity consumed in developed countries. Typically 60-80% of the electricity which is used in the industrial sector and about 35% of the electricity used in the commercial sector in the European Union is consumed by motors. In industry, a motor consumes an annual quantity of electricity which corresponds to approximately 5 times its purchase price, throughout its whole life of aroun~ 12 to 20 years. Motors are by far the most important type of electric load. They are used in all sectors and in a wide range of applications, namely the following: fans, compressors, pumps, mills, winders, elevators, transports, home appliances, and office equipment, etc. It is their wide use that makes motor drive systems one of the main targets to achieve significant energy savings. As motors are the largest USers of electrical energy, even small efficiency improvements will produce very large energy savings. - Häftad, Engelska, 2012

Electrical drives play an important part as electromechanical energy converters in transportation, materials handling and most production processes. This book presents a unified treatment of complete electrical drive systems, including the mechanical parts, electrical machines, and power converters and control. Since it was first published in 1985 the book has found its way onto many desks in industry and universities all over the world. For the second edition the text has been thoroughly revised and updated, with the aim of offering the reader a general view of the field of controlled electrial drives, which are maintaining and extending their importance as the most flexible source of controlled mechanical energy. - Häftad, Tyska, 1981
