He has been a governor of 23 schools, state and independent, and was the founding chairman of governors of a state free school, the London Academy of Excellence. He was on the board of Ofqual during the period of extensive reform to the curriculum and exams in the 2010s. He is currently dean of education at the University of Buckingham, one of the largest teacher training providers in the UK and is a trustee of the Yellow Submarine charity for young people with learning disabilities in Oxford.
