Ilja Kukuj is the coordinator for Russian Language Studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He is the author of numerous publications on Soviet film, avant-garde, and unofficial Soviet culture, and the editor of several volumes on unofficial Soviet literature. Recent publications include the Oxford Handbook of Soviet Underground Culture (coedited with Maria Engström, Tomás Glanc, Mark Lipovetsky, and Klavdia Smola, 2024), and Form and Transformation in Soviet Underground Writing (coedited with Catherine Cielepa and Ann Komaromi, 2026). Kukuj is also the coeditor (along with Riccardo Nicolosi, Brigitte Obermayr, and Tilmann Reuther) of the academic journal Wiener Slawistischer Almanach.
