Water transmission and distribution systems are pressurized hydraulic networks, consisting of pipes and other appurtenant components such as reservoirs, pumps, valves and surge devices. Analysis, design and flow control problems in such systems can best be dealt with using network synthesis. This approach aims to directly determine design variables in order to achieve a specified behaviour of the system under steady state or transient flow conditions. There are enormous advantages to be achieved in applying such a model to a wide variety of problems in engineering practice. The innovative theoretical framework described in this thesis, incorporates necessary and sufficient conditions for solvability, as well as methods/algorithms for the efficient solution of network problems.

This book comprehensively reviews the advanced modification techniques of starch and applications in food packaging and 3D/4D printing. The initial chapter provides an overview of the primary sources of starch, including cereals, tubers, and roots, and discusses global trends in starch production and consumption. The book examines the molecular architecture of starch granules and their inherent functional properties. It covers traditional chemical, enzymatic, and biotechnological modification methods, alongside innovative techniques such as nanotechnology, microwave, cold plasma, and ultrasound treatments. Additionally, the book presents the development of smart starches and starch nanoparticles, discussing their extraction, modification, characterization, and applications, particularly in food packaging and 3D/4D printing. The book also explores responsive and smart starches that change properties in response to environmental stimuli, discussing their development and applications. Towards the end, the book presents the functional and nutritional benefits of modified starches, as well as their regulatory and safety aspects. This book is an important resource for researchers, industry professionals, and students in food science, materials science, and biotechnology.Key featuresDiscusses traditional chemical, enzymatic, and biotechnological methods and innovative approaches for starch modificationProvides an overview of primary starch sources, such as cereals, tubers, and roots, and discusses global production and consumption trendsAnalyzes the molecular architecture and inherent functional properties of starch granules, setting a foundation for modification techniquesPresents the development of smart starches and starch nanoparticles, including their extraction, modification, characterization, and applications, particularly in food packaging and 3D/4D printingExplores the functional and nutritional benefits of modified starches, emphasizing their roles in health and wellnessProvides a comprehensive overview of regulatory standards and safety assessments for the use of modified starches in food and other applications

An up-to-date and comprehensive analysis of mountainous region water resource management In Water Resources Management in Mountain Regions, a team of distinguished researchers delivers an up-to-date survey of mountain region hydrology, including the assessment, dynamics, and modeling of glaciers, rivers, and lakes, as well as coverage of the impact of climate change and anthropogenic activities on mountain ecosystems. The authors discuss the challenges posed for those attempting to sustainably manage water resources and explain the impacts of those challenges on water yield, water quality, and the risk of flash flooding. The book includes several case studies from the Himalayan mountain range, which serves as a model region for both medium-high and very high-altitude water resources. It also examines traditional methods of water resource management and conservation and their relevance for 21st century strategies. Readers will also find: A thorough introduction to the management challenges of water resources in the Sikkim Mountain regionsComprehensive explorations of the microbial dynamics, ecological resilience, and sustainable management strategies of mountainous water resourcesPractical discussions of the application of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing in Satpuda mountainous terrainComplete examinations of water resource vulnerability to climate change in the mountain regions of IndiaPerfect for scientists and other professionals working in surface and subsurface hydrology, environmental management, and climate science, Water Resources Management in Mountain Regions will also prove invaluable to professionals working in companies and governmental institutions involved in water resource exploitation and conservation, hydroelectric power generation, and disaster prevention.

The book, which was developed during the COVID-19 lockdown period, addresses a gap in the market for a comprehensive text on basic entomology for undergraduate students. While there are numerous books available on the subject, many are either too detailed or too brief and focus primarily on research rather than providing a well-rounded introduction. This book fulfills the need for a text that covers the essential aspects of entomology in a balanced and up-to-date manner, making it an ideal resource for undergraduate students. The book provides a comprehensive overview of entomology, which is the biological study of insects. As the largest class of living organisms, insects play a vital role in many ecosystems, and understanding their morphology, anatomy, physiology, and classification is crucial for practical applications in the field. The book includes a range of illustrations and photographs to help students better understand the material. In terms of content, the book covers the morphology, anatomy, physiology, and systematics of the insect class Insecta. The book is designed to meet the needs of undergraduate students studying entomology, fulfilling the requirements set forth by their syllabus. Due to the limited availability of suitable texts, this book is a valuable resource for students seeking a comprehensive introduction to the subject. The book is written in American English and adheres to its spelling, specific terms, and phrases.
