There have been tremendous advancements in technology-based assessments in new modes of data collection and the use of artificial intelligence. Traditional assessment techniques in the fields of psychology, business, education, and health need to be reconsidered. Yet, while technology is pervasive, its spread is not consistent due to national differences in economics and culture. However, their use is frequently criticized because of their adverse potential for bias and unfairness. Although issues pertaining to employment testing, bias, and unfairness are extensively researched and written about, previous work has predominately focused on perspectives from the United States. Therefore, the goal of this handbook is to provide a global examination of ideas and issues pertaining to bias and unfairness in employment testing. Specifically, this text details perspectives from twenty-three countries spanning six regions of the globe, on the definition, assessment, and reduction of bias and unfairness in employment testing. In doing so, this work fills a critical gap in the knowledge and information available to employment testing scholars and practitioners who conduct research and practice in an increasingly globalized world.

Schooling matters. The authors' professional pursuits for over twenty-five years have been focused on measuring one key aspect of schooling: the curriculum - what students are expected to study and what they spend their time studying. This documents their conviction that schools and schooling play a vital and defining role in what students know and are able to do with respect to mathematics and science. This research examines seventeen international studies of mathematics and science to provide a nuanced comparative education study. Whilst including multiple measures of students' family and home backgrounds, these studies measure the substance of the curriculum students study which has been shown to have a strong relationship with student performance. Such studies have demonstrated the interrelatedness of student background and curriculum. Student background influences their opportunities to learn and their achievements, yet their schooling can have even greater significance.
