The Metallome in Motion: Insights into Ecosystem and Food Chain Toxicodynamics fills a vital gap by integrating multidisciplinary research on how metals influence biological systems, food safety, and environmental health. The book’s contents span a wide range of interrelated topics, beginning with metal-mediated epigenetic modifications and toxicodynamics at the molecular and cellular levels. Other sections explore the geochemical and anthropogenic origins of contaminants, factors affecting metal bioavailability, and the synergistic effects of metal-radical interactions. In addition, detailed chapters address the roles of metalloproteins, pathways of bioaccumulation and trophic transfer, transgenerational toxicity, and hidden reservoirs such as soil microaggregates.Advanced analytical methods, the emerging field of toxicometallomics, impacts of metals in agriculture, quantum effects of nanoparticles, and global regulatory frameworks are also thoroughly discussed, making this an essential reference for postgraduate students in food science, as well as academics and researchers in agriculture, plant science, environmental science, and biotechnology.Offers a multidisciplinary approach, integrating metallomic profiling, molecular toxicology, and environmental science to provide a comprehensive understanding of metal contaminantsInvestigates the epigenetic modifications caused by metals, examining their effects on gene expression and toxicodynamics in biological systemsAnalyzes the bioaccumulation and biomagnification of metals across food chains, from microorganisms to apex predatorsIntroduces advanced analytical techniques, including spectroscopic and omics-based methods, to study metal distribution and interactions at the cellular and organismal levelsEmphasizes global regulatory frameworks and risk assessment models for effectively managing metal contamination in ecosystems and human food chains

This book is a comprehensive exploration of the dynamic and evolving landscape of allied healthcare, providing a foundational understanding of the principles, practices, and challenges associated with integrated patient care. Through a multidisciplinary approach, it addresses the interplay of various allied health disciplines and communication and ethical and legal considerations followed in achieving optimal patient outcomes. The volume begins with an introduction to allied health sciences and career opportunities and discusses the basic knowledge, such as knowledge of anatomy and physiology and the interrelationship between systems and organs in the body. The volume covers the skills required for specialized areas, including medical imaging and radiology; rehabilitation, physical, and occupational therapy; speech therapy; nutrition and dietetics; community ophthalmology; etc. Also addressed are the safety quality and patient care aspects of allied healthcare, forensic aspects in patient care, inter-collaborations in patient care; and ethical and legal issues in patient care.

Fungal pathogens pose an on-going and serious threat for poikilotherms and homeotherms, and can cause a broad spectrum of diseases ranging from innocuous to life-threatening. In addition, long-term exposure to some mycotoxigenic moulds can lead to mycotoxicoses in human and animals. Given the expanding population of immune compromised hosts, the list of fungal opportunists grows longer every year. Moreover, antifungal resistance, drug-related toxicity and our limited arsenal of antifungals have exacerbated the situation. To address these problems, strategies such as the identification of novel targets, use of the structure-activity relationship in rational drug design, development of new formulations, modification of existing antifungals to combat resistance, and bioavailability enhancement are called for. For the reader’s convenience, this book has been divided into three sections. The first six chapters of Section I provide a timely review of mycoses, from endemic to cosmopolitan and from generalized to specific, while both chapters of Section II focus on risks associated with mycotoxins. In closing, the two chapters of Section III describe potential antifungal leads and drug candidates based on phytochemicals and coumarin scaffold.

This book discusses one of the biggest challenges of the food industry, which is waste management. Food industries generate high amounts of waste, both solid and liquid, resulting from the production, processing and consumption of food. Stringent environmental legislators have made the task of waste management more challenging. Through the three sections of this book, the readers are introduced to the different types of wastes generated, utilization of waste through food processing industry and sustainable waste management technologies. The different chapters describe how the biomass and the valuable nutrients from food industry wastes could be used to develop value-added products. The book reiterates that food wastes and their by-products are an excellent source of sugars, minerals, dietary fiber, organic acids, bio active compounds such as polyphenols, carotenoids and phytochemicals etc. This book is an excellent resource for industry experts, researchers and studentsin the field of food science, food processing and food waste management.
