Vart är det sociala arbetet på väg? Har vi tappat bort det förebyggande arbetet till förmån för utredning och riskminimering, där hjälpsökande klientifieras och blir patienter?

Den här boken lyfter fram det som är grunden i det sociala arbetet – att möta människor i deras vardag för att förstå, förklara, stötta och hjälpa utan att reproducera föreställningar och fördomar; att flytta ut det sociala arbetet från kontoren och närmare människors vardagsliv.

Författaren har deltagit i olika forskningsprojekt, till exempel om arbetets organisering på ett socialkontor, ett annat om inklusion/exklusion av unga personer med invandrarbakgrund i Europa. Många konkreta exempel levandegör inte bara det sociala arbetets strukturer utan också de människor som berörs av detta. Boken avslutas med en presentation av ett mer teoretiskt ramverk för ett levande socialt arbete.

Om författarenMarcus Herz är lektor i socialt arbete vid Malmö Högskola. Hans forskning handlar i huvudsak om socialt arbete och makt, samt kön, etnicitet och ras. Herz var redaktör för boken Kritiskt Socialt Arbete (också Liber).
