It focuses particularly on that ‘common-sense knowledge’ which constitutes the reality of everyday life for the ordinary member of society.The authors are concerned to present an analysis of knowledge in everyday life in the context of a theory of society as a dialectical process between objective and subjective reality. Diese Festschrift ist Helmuth Plessner aus Anlaß seines achtzigsten Geburtstages ge­ widmet. Ihre Beiträge sind nicht nur der Thematik, sondern ebenso im Denkansatz und in der Logik ihrer Aussagen so verschieden, daß der Versuch, sie unter eine gemeinsame Überschrift zu bringen, fehlschlagen müßte. Der Titel der Festschrift ist gleichwohl nicht ohne Grund gewählt. Er zielt auf eine Pro­ blematik, die besonders geeignet ist, das Werk Plessners und seine Bedeutung zu er­ schließen. Im Begriff der Sachlichkeit verdichtet sich der vor allem in den anthropolo­ gischen Arbeiten unternommene Versuch, einer erkenntnistheoretischen Problematik Herr zu werden, die schon den Zugang zur menschlichen Lebenswelt nicht zu finden weiß und den Begriff der Wahrheit zunichte zu machen droht. Auch in der Sozialphilo­ sophie verfolgt Plessner das Ziel, durch eine auf das Prinzip der Unergründlichkeit ge­ stellte Sachlichkeit Grund zu legen für eine Theorie der Gesellschaft, insbesondere des Politischen in ihr. Nicht wenige der hier veröffentlichten Beiträge sind dieser Problematik verpflichtet und lassen darin den Einfluß der Plessnerschen Arbeiten erkennen.

Ob es unserer Gesellschaft, wie von verschiedenen Seiten immer wieder behauptet wird, an Moral mangelt, sei dahingestellt, an einem Mangel an Äußerungen über Moral leidet sie jedenfalls nicht. Auch die vorliegende Publikation kommt nicht umhin, an dieser ausufernden Kommunikation über Moral teilzuhaben -freilich ist sie bestrebt, nicht an ihr teilzunehmen, sondern zu beobachten, wie Moral kommu­ nikativ funktioniert. Sie tut dies, indem sie für eine Vielzahl von Situationen und Kontexten auf der Grundlage dokumentierter Unterhaltungen, Ansprachen, Diskus­ sionen u. a. m. untersucht, in welchen Formen moralische Kommunikation abläuft, an welchen Prinzipien sich die Handelnden dabei orientieren und welche durch­ laufenden Strukturmerkmale diese Art von Kommunikation auszeichnen. Die Publikation will also nicht eine weitere theoretische Spekulation über Wandel oder Verfall der Moral in der Moderne liefern, ihr Beitrag ist vielmehr eine empirisch begründete, auf Theoriebildung ausgerichtete Untersuchung über die gegenwärtige Verfassung der Moral und deren kommunikative Konstruktion und Reproduktion. Die Publikation, die das Ergebnis eines mehrjährigen empirischen Forschungs­ projekts ist, unterteilt sich in zwei Bände. Im kürzlich publizierten ersten Band "Struktur und Dynamik der Formen moralischer Kommunikation" ging es zunächst um eine begrifflich-theoretische Klärung des Zusammenhangs von Moral und Kommunikation und dann auf empirischem Weg um eine Bestimmung elementarer Bestandteile und Komponenten sowie einzelner Formen, Gattungen und Modali­ täten der moralischen Kommunikation. Außerdem wird der Frage nachgegangen, auf welche Weise moralische Kommunikation rückbezüglich durch die Alltags­ theorien der Kommunikationsteilnehmer über Moral inihrem Ablauf beeinflußt wird.
