Tillfälligt slut
In October 2004 the Research Center for Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases of Shaheed Beheshti University hosted in Tehran an Iranian-American workshop on Food Safety and Surveillance Systems for Foodborne Diseases. The purposes of the workshop were to initiate contacts between Iranian and American specialists, exchange information about relevant activities in the two countries, and set the stage for future cooperation in the field. The participants also identified important aspects of food safety that should be addressed more intensively by both countries, including surveillance, research, international trade, and risk assessment. The framework for the workshop had been developed during a meeting of Iranian and American specialists in June 2003 in Les Treilles, France. More that 100 specialists participated in the workshop in their personal capacities, along with representatives of the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization. These proceedings include a number of papers that were presented at the workshop together with summaries of discussions following presentation of the papers.

Commodity dependence is a trap: once a country is commodity dependent, it is difficult to develop a productive sector out of commodities and export non-commodity products. This publication argues that without strong action at the highest political level in Commodity-dependent Developing Countries (CDDCs), these countries will remain trapped for centuries. It demonstrates how technology and innovation could lead the way to economic and structural transformation in CDDCs, helping to diversify economies and lessen dependence on the commodity sector and, in turn, strengthen productivity growth. Enabling CDDCs to escape from the commodity dependence trap requires stronger cooperation between CDDCs and their trading and development partners with regard to technological acquisition and domestication. Indeed, a conducive framework for technology accessibility and its transfer to CDDCs is ultimately needed at the international level

The Forest Products Annual Market Review, 2015-2016 provides general and statistical information on forest products markets in 2015 and early 2016 in the UN Economic Commission for Europe region (North America, Europe, the CIS), as well as market influences from outside the UNECE region. The Review covers the range of products from the forest to the final end-user: from roundwood and primary processed products to value-added and innovative wood products. Statistic-based chapters of the Review analyse markets of wood raw materials, sawn softwood, sawn hardwood, wood-based panels, paper, paper board and woodpulp. Other chapters analyse policies, innovative wood products, markets of wood energy, value-added wood products and housing. A special section on pallets and wooden packaging is also included this year. Underlying the analysis is a comprehensive collection of data.

Guide to implementation of phytosanitary standards in forestry
Häftad, Engelska, 2011

This guide provides easy-to-understand information on how good forest management practices and well implemented phytosanitary standards can minimize pest spread and facilitate safe trade. It explains how the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs) and national plant protection organization (NPPO) regulations affect the import and export of forest commodities and how relevant ISPMs can be used to prevent pest introduction and spread. This publication will be of vital interest to people involved in nursery activities, planting, managing, harvesting, manufacturing, trading and transporting forest products. It will also benefit forest policy-makers, planners, managers and educators, particularly in developing countries.

This publication aims to facilitate the systematic integration of gender equality dimensions into value chain (VC) development programmes. It raises awareness about gender inequalities and discusses the importance of addressing these dimensions in VC development, while also building a common approach towards work on gender-sensitive VC development. Despite the many advantages of addressing social inequality, gender dimensions often remain overlooked in agricultural development programmes. VC development practitioners may find it challenging to mainstream gender within their work, either because they are unaware of the relevance of gender dynamics to VCs, or because they need technical support in translating gender equality objectives into concrete actions in the implementation of programmes. This framework, companion to the publication, Developing gender-sensitive value chains: Guidelines for practitioners, aims to respond to this gap by raising awareness, building a common approach, and providing concrete guiding principles.

This study aims to assess the skills and training needs of rural youth in Cambodia and to develop recommendations on how to foster their access to decent employment. The needs assessment was conducted in the provinces of Kampong Chhnang, Battambang and Kampong Cham. The study highlights the limited decent employment opportunities that currently exist along various agricultural value chains in rural Cambodia. Poverty and the structural problems of the agricultural sector are the main barriers for youth in accessing decent rural employment. A substantial enhancement of the education system, combined with the provision of appropriate training services to ensure successful school-to-work transition, is seen as necessary to tackle these challenges. A well-balanced policy mix reflecting national and local circumstances can boost employment opportunities and create an environment that enables rural youth. Building on previous research on agriculture in Cambodia, this study argues that agricultural transformation requires promotion of agribusiness enterprises, support to community-managed farmer organizations and promotion of agropreneurs, as well as investment in agricultural and rural development, particularly in infrastructure, energy, water, education and health. Moreover, as most young people entering agriculture are self-employed and work as small-scale farmers, training in rural areas should focus on the skills required to be self-employed.

The Fisheries Emergency Rapid Assessment Tool (FERAT) guides the assessment of fisheries after natural or technological disasters and during complex or protracted emergencies. It provides guidance in the form of decision trees, divided into six steps - ranging from beneficiaries assessment to impact monitoring - that should be followed in sequence.Natural or technological disasters and complex and protracted emergencies seriously affect fishing communities and the ecosystem they depend upon, with different impacts on men and women. In addition, disasters can cause threats to aquatic ecosystems, such as fish species habitats and biodiversity. In such contexts, the rapid restoration of fisheries after a disaster can help maintain their role in providing nutritious food and employment. In addition to providing guidance to field personnel and fisheries officers in carrying out assessments and making decisions about the procurement and delivery of fishing gear and equipment, the manual also offers guidance on monitoring these interventions.
