This book is divided into three parts: Part I provides the theoretical background for the study of airport regulation and regulatory systems. Competition at airports is discussed, as are common forms of regulation and potential pitfalls. Part II addresses benchmarking, as benchmarking is often applied as an input to the regulatory process. Although benchmarking is necessary, reviews of how benchmarking is applied in the literature and in practice show that improvements can be made. Part III providescase studies on real-world examples.

Addressing the question of whether and how European airport regulators set incentives for efficiency, and how benchmarking is used in the regulatory process, this book is an important contribution to the development of the transport industry in Europe and Latin America. It will appeal to scholars and students in transport economics, regional economics and related fields, as well as to practitioners and policy makers in the transport industry.

The fourth edition of this textbook has been thoroughly revised in order to reflect the central role which geodesy has achieved in the past ten years.

The Global Geodetic Observing System established by the IAG utilizes a variety of techniques to determine the geometric shape of the earth and its kinematics, the variations of earth rotation, and the earth’s gravity field. Space techniques play a fundamental role, with recent space missions also including gravity field recovery. Terrestrial techniques are important for regional and local applications, and for validating the results of the space missions. Global and regional reference systems are now well established and widely used. They also serve as a basis for geo-information systems. The analysis of the time variation of the geodetic products provides the link to other geosciences and contributes to proper modelling of geodynamic processes.

The book follows the principal directions of geodesy, providing the theoretical background as well as the principles of measurement and evaluation methods. Selected examples of instruments illustrate the geodetic work. An extensive reference list supports further studies.

Mit diesem Band wird die Abteilung III des Editionsprojektes Quellen zur Geschichte des Deutschen Bundes, die den Zeitraum von 1850 bis 1866 umfasst, abgeschlossen. Im Mittelpunkt steht zum einen der Frankfurter Fürstentag von 1863, auf dem ein letzter großer Versuch zu einer umfassenden Bundesreform unternommen wurde. Den zweiten Schwerpunkt bilden die bundespolitischen Auswirkungen des Schleswig-Holstein-Konflikts, der seit 1863 zum politischen Zerfall des Deutschen Bundes und schließlich zu seiner gewaltsamen Zerstörung im Krieg von 1866 führte. Der Band dokumentiert die Entwicklung der inneren Bundespolitik in den Jahren von 1824 bis 1830, über die bislang relativ wenig bekannt ist. In insgesamt 170 Dokumenten wird ein breites Panorama von Themen behandelt, die in der Bundesversammlung und ihren Kommissionen, in den einzelstaatlichen Ministerien und Parlamenten, in diplomatischen Korrespondenzen sowie in der Presse und Publizistik diskutiert wurden. Zu den Schwerpunkten des Bandes zählen:

– Die Tätigkeit der Mainzer Zentraluntersuchungskommission und deren Ergebnisse.
